What’s at Coltishall Halt

Coltishall is a small platform halt surrounded by countryside, ideal for walkers and visitors looking to discover the village. From here, it’s about a 20-minute walk to the village common and riverside staithe, a popular mooring point on the River Bure. Or take a walk along the *Bure Valley Path which runs alongside the railway for nine miles between Aylsham and Wroxham. The stop makes an ideal place to break a journey, explore the local countryside and Coltishall Village, or enjoy a peaceful spot for a picnic at the common, or by the riverside.

*Please note that the Bure Valley Path is not part of the railway and is owned and managed by the local council.

Shops, Cafés and Pubs

Coltishall may be small, but it has retained a handful of local shops and boasts several excellent pubs. By the river you’ll find the Rising Sun and The Kings Head, both traditional pubs serving good food and real ales. Slightly closer to the station, in the neighbouring village of Horstead, the well-known Recruiting Sergeant is another great choice for dining.

Coltishall History & Sites

The village is home to the thatched Parish Church of St John, a distinctive and historic landmark. Just to the north lies the former RAF Coltishall base, which played an important role during World War II and was once home to Squadron Leader Douglas Bader. Flying operations ceased in 2006, but the site remains a significant part of Coltishall’s heritage.
