Aylsham

Aylsham is a picturesque Norfolk market town on the upper River Bure. Its National Trust–cared-for market square is lined with elegant 18th-century houses, a reminder of the town’s cloth-trade prosperity. Weekly markets and monthly farmers’ markets continue this long tradition with fresh local produce and artisan goods.

History is woven through the town, from the 14th-century St Michael’s Church - linked to John of Gaunt, who appears on the town sign and inspired the name of our No. 8 locomotive - to the grave of renowned landscape designer Humphry Repton in the churchyard.

Shops, Cafés and Pubs

Aylsham offers a welcoming mix of small independent shops, cafés and pubs centred around Red Lion Street and the historic market square. You’ll find everything from artisan food and sweet treats to traditional local produce.

When it’s time to pause, there are plenty of cosy tearooms and characterful pubs serving real ales and hearty meals.
