Bure Valley Path
The Bure Valley Path is a scenic walking and cycling trail running between Aylsham and Wroxham, tracing the route of the Bure Valley Railway. Mostly traffic-free, it’s a peaceful way to enjoy the Norfolk countryside, passing quiet lanes and the charming villages of Buxton, Brampton and Coltishall. Many visitors choose to combine their walk or ride with a train journey - bicycles and dogs are welcome on board for a small additional charge. Please check our timetable, as intermediate stops operate only in peak seasons and space is limited.
Broadland District Council
PLEASE NOTE: The Bure Valley Path is a permissive route owned and maintained by Broadland District Council, and is wholly independent of the Bure Valley Railway. The railway does not make any guarantees about the condition or safety of the path, and all walkers and cyclists use it at their own risk. Any problems, hazards, or maintenance concerns should be reported directly to Broadland District Council.
Walking
For those looking to walk the Bure Valley Path, it can be accessed from Aylsham Station via Red Lion Street and Norwich Road. Wander through the Norfolk countryside and explore local landmarks or join the railway at intermediate stops during peak seasons with a valid pre-booked ticket. Always check our timetable to ensure this is possible. As a dog-friendly railway, dog walkers are also very welcome to travel part of the route by train. Please keep dogs on leads near the railway and livestock.
Cycling
Cyclists can enjoy the full nine-mile Bure Valley Path running parallel to the railway, with easy access from Aylsham Station via Red Lion Street and Norwich Road. The route runs alongside the railway, and connects with Marriott’s Way for those wanting to extend their ride.
For cyclists who prefer not to ride both ways, trains can be flagged down at intermediate Halts during peak seasons, but *space is limited, so we recommend contacting us in advance to pre-book your bicycles. Cycle racks are also available at Aylsham Station.
*Please note that during busy periods or reduced services, space cannot be guaranteed.
