Accessibility

Accessibility at Bure Valley Railway

We want everyone to enjoy a relaxed and memorable day out on the Bure Valley Railway. Our team works hard to make the railway as accessible as possible, and we’re always happy to help with individual needs. If you have any questions before your visit, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Stations and access

Both Aylsham and Wroxham stations are flat and on one level, with easy access from the car parks to station buildings and platforms. There are no steps between the main station areas and the platforms, making arrival and departure straightforward for wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility.

Accessible parking

Designated accessible parking spaces are available at both stations, located close to the ticket offices. Car parks are level and have dropped kerbs to assist wheelchair and mobility scooter users.

Trains and boarding

Each train includes a saloon coach with double doors, designed to provide improved access for wheelchair users and those who need extra space. Our guards are trained to assist with boarding and can provide ramps where required.

To ensure availability and allow us to offer the best possible assistance, we strongly recommend booking in advance if you require use of the accessible saloon coach.

Onboard experience

Once onboard, our staff will be happy to help make your journey comfortable. Assistance dogs are welcome on our trains and at stations.

As a heritage railway, some features may differ from modern rail services, but we will always do our best to accommodate individual needs and provide clear advice before you travel.

Toilets and facilities

Accessible toilets are available at our stations, and our café and shop areas are step-free and easy to access. There are no facilities at our intermittent halts.

Neurodiversity and Additional Needs

Neurodivergent visitors are encouraged to enjoy the Bure Valley Railway, with staff on hand to help make visits as comfortable as possible. A heritage railway experience includes sights and sounds such as steam and whistles, which some guests may find stimulating. Visitors are welcome to get in touch in advance to discuss individual needs and we will do our best to help.

Booking and assistance

If you would like to discuss your requirements, reserve an accessible coach, or ask for advice before visiting, please contact our friendly team. Advance notice helps us make sure everything is ready for your arrival.
