Aylsham Town
Aylsham is a picturesque Norfolk market town on the upper River Bure. Its National Trust–cared-for market square is lined with elegant 18th-century houses, a reminder of the town’s cloth-trade prosperity.
History is woven through the town, from the 14th-century St Michael’s Church - linked to John of Gaunt, who appears on the town sign and inspired the name of our No. 8 locomotive - to the grave of renowned landscape designer Humphry Repton in the churchyard.
Shops, Cafés and Pubs

The town has a long tradition of local trading, and today you’ll find a varied selection of artisan food, sweet treats, gifts and everyday local produce, making it a pleasure to browse at a relaxed pace.
Weekly markets and monthly farmers’ markets continue this long-standing tradition, bringing fresh local produce and artisan goods into the heart of the town and adding to its lively, community-focused atmosphere.
